Partial Lunar Eclipse of 8th November, 2022

A Total Lunar Eclipse is occurring on 8th November, 2022. From India, it will be a Partial Lunar Eclipse as the moon is going to rise after the totality ends. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned in almost exactly a straight line such that the Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. Lunar eclipses can occur only on full moons, but not all full moons have a lunar eclipse.

Live streaming of the Partial Lunar Eclipse will start at 5:15 pm from ARIES, Manora Peak, Nainital subject to clear weather. Telescope will also be available for visitors coming to ARIES, Manora Peak, Nainital for watching the eclipse 5:15 pm onward subject to clear weather. We will offer tea to visitors coming to ARIES.

What do you need to watch this Lunar Eclipse?
Clear eastern horizon, and nothing else. Unlike solar eclipses, a lunar eclipse is perfectly safe to watch using naked eyes. If you have a telescope or a binocular then you can use that also. You can also join us online on our Facebook page & YouTube channel.

Is it safe to go out/eat/cook/do some work during a Lunar Eclipse?
Yes, a lunar eclipse doesn't affect any of these. It's just Earth's shadow falling on Moon. Not going out/eating /cooking/working during an eclipse are superstitions.
