Project Scientist and Project Associate Position for the SSA Project Funded by IRDE-DRDO, Dehradun
The Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme at ARIES focuses on utilizing ground-based optical facilities to monitor, track, and characterise space objects, including satellites and orbital debris. To strengthen this effort, the institute is hiring a skilled human resourcein observational astronomy, data processing, orbit determination, and automation.

1) Project Scientist I

Essential Qualification:
Ph. D. in Astronomy/Astrophysics
Additional Requirements:
Prior experience in astronomy/astrophysics, efficient in python programming language, desirable knowledge of astronomical image analysis.
Description of the job and Responsibilities:
Participation in night observations with the telescope to monitor and track space objects, including satellites and orbital debris.
Assessing the quality of the observed data and performing steps to improve the quality.
Performing data reduction and photometric analysis.
Developing ML/AI based algorithms for automated detection of streaks.
Characterising the detected streaks and cataloging the orbital parameters in a database.
2) ProjectAssociate I

Essential Qualification:
Fulltime Master’s Degree in Physics/Astronomy/Astrophysics or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology Aerospace/Engineering Physics/ Computer Science / Information Technology
Additional Requirements:
Role: data Processing, software development and automation
Prior experience in astronomy/astrophysics, space debris, efficient in python programming language, desirable knowledge of astronomical image analysis. Relevant hands-on industrial exposure or internship is desired.

Terms and Conditions:
1. Tenure: Initially for 06 months co-terminus with the project.
2. Monthly Emolument: The candidate would be offered project positions as per below:

Service conditions shall be governed as per the Institute’s norm & DST guidelines, as amended from time to time.
3. Termination: Director ARIES reserves the right to terminate theengagement/contract at any stage in case of impropriety, misconduct, breach of conditions, irregular attendance, or poor performance quality.
4. Posting: The selected candidate will be posted at ARIES, Nainital campus and will have to travel to Devasthal Observatory to perform observations with the telescope.
5. All other Terms & conditions shall be governed as per the Institute norms.
