Abstract

Gravitational lensing, showing multiple images of distant background sources, can be extremely useful in constraining models of cosmology and galaxy formation-evolution. With next generation large optical imaging surveys such as Rubin LSST, we will be finding thousands of lens systems which, on one hand, will bring new challenges but on the other hand, will enable us to do more accurate and interesting science. My talk will focus on the science that will be feasible through Rubin LSST and the measures taken to tackle various challenges. Furthermore, gravitational wave sources are also expected to be gravitationally lensed and will open unexplored avenues, especially, through the "multi-messenger" studies. Thus, a synergy is expected between the electromagnetic and gravitational waves domain. I will be touching upon this aspect as well in my talk, if time permits.
