Participation in Science Week celebration at HNB Garhwal University
ARIES participated in Science Week Festival organised by H. N. B. Garhwal University as part of the year-long Golden Jubilee Celebrations from February 28 to March 4, 2023. The theme of the programme, "Global Science for Global Wellbeing," was inspired by National Science Day.
ARIES also coordinated various activities held during this week-long celebration at the university's three main campuses: Chauras Campus Srinagar, SRT Tehri, and BGR Pauri.
On February 28, 2023, the inaugural ceremony was held at Swami Manmanthan Auditorium on the Chauras Campus. Padam Shri Kalyan Singh Rawat 'Maiti,' a well-known environmentalist, gave a lecture on the environment and the Maiti movement. Mr. Devendra Mewari, a famous science writer, communicator, and Sahitya Academy Awardee, spoke about the scientific conscience in literature.
Dr. R. P. Singh, Director of IIRS Dehradun, explained the Raman effect and the search for habitable planets to the audience. Dr. Neelam Panwar from ARIES discussed the stellar life cycle and the formation of stars and planets in this order.
On March 02 and 03, 2023, one-day seminars and sky-watching activities were also organised at the SRT Campus in Tehri and the BGR Campus in Pauri.
Another highlight of the programme was sky watch sessions organized in all three campuses, in which Mr. Ravindra K. Yadav from ARIES demonstrated the Sun and Sunspots to school / college students with the help of a small telescope. The night skywatch programme drew a large number of school/college students and other participants, who were treated to a breathtaking view of the Moon, Jupiter, and Venus.
