Abstract

Superluminous supernovae (SLSNe) are one the least understood and rare class of objects. With the advent of modern telescopes and dedicated survey programs, in the past decade, we saw the emergence of this new class of SNe. These are 10-1000 times brighter than typical core-collapse SNe and their powering mechanisms are not yet understood.
In this talk, I will discuss the multiband observations of a very recent and the nearest SLSN-I event ever found, SN 2017egm. This object provided a much deeper insight into the explosion mechanism but also challenged our current understanding of host properties.
