The field of exoplanet research has flourished since the first detection nearly three decades ago, revealing a vast diversity of planets across a wide range of stellar types. In this talk, I will highlight some of the most intriguing discoveries and discuss the challenges involved in detecting these planetary systems. Additionally, I will explore key unanswered questions in the field and outline the exciting avenues of research that lie ahead.
Dr. Priyanka Chaturvedi is a Reader at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai since June 2024. She specializes in exoplanet detection and stellar spectroscopy, with a focus on radial velocity studies. She did her PhD at PRL, Ahmedabad in 2016 on eclipsing binaries and radial velocity studies. She had a brief postdoctoral stint at TIFR between 2017-2018, followed by a longer tenure at Thüringer Landessternwarte (TLS), Germany between 2018-2024, where she secured a DFG grant as a principal investigator. She leads the Planet Working Group of the international CARMENES consortium that aims to search for habitable planets around M dwarfs in the solar neighbourhood. She is a member of several international consortia for planet detection and analysis. She is also an active mentor, science communicator, and member of ASI and IAU.
