Abstract

Science, in particular physics, as a profession, does not provide equal opportunities for all genders. This is a global trend. This disparity is driven by socio-cultural aspects as well as inherent gender biases. This does not get corrected automatically and needs special interventions. I will discuss some examples of such biases, the pros and cons of a life in research, the hurdles that one can face and role models who have overcome these barriers. I will also discuss some of the endeavours aimed towards a more inclusive system both at an individual and organizational level.
