Advances in Relativistic Astrophysics - 2023

Over the years, the Indian science community has built and maintained a diverse set of observational facilities, like 2.1 m optical telescope in Kavalur, 2m HCT telescope in Hanle, 3.6 m DOT in Devasthal, GMRT radio telescope in Narayangaon Pune, AstroSat X-ray satellite etc. for a few decades now. This has created a vibrant set of astronomers who have gathered expertise in a `challenging’ research field called relativistic astrophysics. Relativistic Astrophysics encompasses theoretical and computational modelling, and experimental studies of some of the most extreme environments in the universe, ranging from the Big Bang to physics around compact objects such as neutron stars and black holes.

ARIES invites a select number of researchers during Nov 2-4, 2023 in a National level conference called `Advances in Relativistic Astrophysics (AReA)’ to discuss and share their results on various topics of relativistic astrophysics to draw a balance sheet of how much progress has been made in India and what are the promising areas in the near future. The invited researchers are leading experts in the field, specializing in X-ray astronomy, optical astronomy, multi-messenger astronomy, and theory, including numerical simulations.

Additionally, we take this opportunity to pay homage to one of the great relativist India has produced Prof. Amal K. Raychaudhuri (celebrated as AKR). We are organizing a special session on his works.

NOTE: Participation is only through Invitation.
