A. To provide services of facilities of sophisticated analytical instruments to scientists and academicians from academic institutes, R&D laboratories and industries to enable them to carry out measurements for R&D work.
- The telescope laboratory of the electronics section is capable of providing services to R&D laboratories and industries in terms of review, design, development, testing, validation and consultation in the area of control systems, embedded systems, firmware engineering, power electronics, computerized control and monitoring, interfacing analog and digital sensors, embedded networking over various standard and non standard protocols. The laboratory has capability for performing mathematical analysis, modeling, simulation, emulation, design and development, characterizing and validation of precision control systems including motion controllers and process controller for scientific instruments. Using these capabilities the laboratory would also be able to provided services for industrial automation.
- The laboratory has necessary tools and expertise for integration and development of scientific CCD imaging cameras which is useful for scientific institutes and R&D laboratories. The scientific CCD cameras are used in telescopes, physics laboratory and microscopes for high resolution and accurate imaging.
- In addition the laboratory has experience in large and long term telescope and instrument projects providing multi-disciplinary exposure to the engineers. Thus the laboratory has capabilities to provide system engineering services which are essential for large projects.
- Providing services and consultancy for establishing sophisticated laboratories and facilities for carrying out the above activities.
B. To acquire and develop capability for preventive maintenance and repair of sophisticated instruments.
C. To organize short term courses/workshops on the use and application of various instruments and analytical techniques.
Details workshops and short term course in the area of embedded systems and control systems with a focus on their applications for instrument development could be provided.
