Multi-Messenger Output From Magnetically Dominated Blazar Jets

Results from Astroparticle experiments indicate blazars as possible extragalactic sources that simultaneously produce electromagnetic and high-energy neutrino signals (multimessenger emission). These astrophysical sources have long been thought to produce most of their observed emission within relativistic collimated outflows, pointing toward our line of sight, and launched by supermassive black holes. Surprisingly, it is not yet established the particle acceleration mechanism leading to the blazar emission as well as the region within the jet where this emission occurs.
In this talk, we present a blazar multimessenger model based on the previously developed striped jet model, where the transition from magnetic to kinetic dominated flow is driven by magnetic reconnection. Based on this jet model, we constrain the location of the blazar zone as well as the particle acceleration process employing the data of the 2017 neutrino flare from the blazar TXS 0506+056, which is so far the most likely blazar multimessenger source. Finally, we discuss the implications of this blazar multimessenger model in the context of BL Lacs and quasar-hosted blazars.

Dr. Juan Carlos is a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He completed Ph.D. in 2017 at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences in UNAM, Mexico. His research interests are, Analytical and numerical gas dynamics, Star-forming clouds, Multi-messenger Astrophysics and Metaheuristic optimisation techniques. This seminar is a part of the activities commemorating "75 years of India's Independence: Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" at ARIES.
