Abstract :

High-resolution observations and advances in theory and computation have together made possible amazing inferences about the interiors of the Sun and stars. My group focuses on developing seismic techniques to build 3D images of fluid turbulence in the Sun and appreciating the composition and rotation of distant stars. I will describe our contributions to these areas and outline an agenda to apply machine learning to enable the study of vast numbers of stars.

Dr. Sharavan Hanasoge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. This colloquium is a part of the activities commemorating "75 years of India's Independence: Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" at ARIES.
