Topic:

Flux ropes in the heliosphere: their evolution and identification

Speaker : Dr. Sanchita Pal

Date & Time :
Venue : ARIES auditorium
Abstract :

Flux ropes (FRs) are an important ingredient of the heliosphere- a cavity formed by the solar system where solar wind prevails. They majorly originate at the Sun and constitutes the core of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Their evolving magnetic configurations are the major drivers of most geomagnetic storms. These dynamic structures may evolve through different processes like expansion, rotation, deflection, distortion/deformation and erosion. Evolution may result in significant modifications in FR’s structure and its magnetic characteristics. Exploring FR evolution, identifying them in the solar wind may guide the process of reliable space weather forecasting. Thanks to the solar & heliospheric missions that make easy the understanding of FR global structure and interactions using multi-point observations. In my talk, I will discuss FR evolution via erosion, FR global structure variation impacted by surrounding solar wind and FR identification process in the inner heliosphere using artificial intelligence.
